Seventh Generation Ranked Number One Best Company on Earth

New Research Finds Company Leads on Key Environmental & Social Indicators

BURLINGTON, Vt., Nov 24, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Better World Shopping Guide, the acclaimed comprehensive buying resource for ethically-minded consumers, has named Seventh Generation the number one company in the world.

The new ranking is result of five years of intensive study of over 1,000 consumer product companies. Using a database that combined more than 25 different sources of information covering the past 20 years of corporate behavior, researchers examined each company's performance on a wide variety of key metrics involving issues related to human rights, the environment, animal protection, community involvement, and social justice. When the results of the project were compiled into a master rating system, Seventh Generation was identified as the top company operating on the planet today.

"This is really a tremendous honor because it's not the result of anyone's opinion or personal bias. This is hard cold number crunching and analysis doing the talking," said Seventh Generation President and Chief Inspired Protagonist Jeffrey Hollender. "It's a declaration made by data, and the facts back up what we've always believed to be true: that nobody works harder than we do to protect the environment and respect our fellow human beings. It's wonderful to have those efforts validated by independent research."

Joining Seventh Generation on the list of the world's top ten best companies are Patagonia, American Apparel, Eden Foods, Tom's of Maine, Ben & Jerry's, Working Assets, Clif Bar, Stonyfield Farms, and Aveda.
